Sorry I Haven't Been Posting....
It has been a whirlwind of a summer and I have neglected my lovely readers! My apologies to those of you who have just been on the edge of your seats waiting for the next chapter of our Hawai'i adventure.
Our household goods were delivered after a long month of living in a virtually empty house. We have it pretty well set up now, and we're so happy with our new home! Vehicle #1 arrived around the same
time, and since we have to pay out of pocket to ship a second vehicle, Dustin is biking to work while I drive the truck to my job about 25 minutes away.
Oh, I got a job! I am teaching Kindergarten in an affluent suburb in the middle of the island. My wonderful mother has been staying with us since late July to care for James while we waited to get him a spot with a childcare provider, and he will be starting at an in-home center next month. This has been a bittersweet experience for me. I love my new job, and I know he will benefit so much from a structured social environment, but...I miss him. I loved being a stay-at-home mom, and I hope to hold the position again in the future after we have used my extra income to pay off student loans.
We still have a good bit of exploring to do on this little island! We've watched hula dancers at Waikiki Beach and swam in the waters of the North Shore, but there is still so much to see in between! Soon we are planning to hike Diamond Head, an inactive volcano, and snorkel at Hanauma Bay. We also have yet to attend a luau! Luckily though, we have plenty of time. We'll be here for at least 3 years and have discussed requesting to stay another 3.
I am am in constant awe of the beauty here. There are vivid rainbows multiple times a week, the mountains are majestic, and the sunsets are incredible. We walk or bike to the harbor to watch them almost every evening. The flowers are like nothing I've seen before, and of course the ocean is an unbelievable blue. I will miss the chilly nights and beautiful fall leaves in the Midwest, but it's a fair trade-off.
Thanks for your patience these last few months! Be on the lookout for posts in the near future about my experience as a new teacher, our efforts in potty training, home improvement projects, and more!
