The Internet is saturated with posts about the difficulties of raising a toddler. And I'm not here to disagree with them, not at all! I'm sure eventually I will have my own humorous anecdotes to add to the pile. But tonight I am feeling particularly sentimental, and I find myself seeing beauty even in the difficult moments with my son. So here I have for you ten reasons why toddlers are the absolute best.
1. A little naked butt running down the hall at bath time, giggles included.
2. A tiny body, covered in footie pajamas, standing on a chair trying to reach the Hershey kisses.
3. The excited proclamation of "moon!!!" on every evening walk.
4. Open mouth nibbles on my nose, because he hasn't quite figured out the mechanics of kisses.
5. Watching him love on his baby doll, and seeing what he learns from how we love on him.
6. Sleepy snuggles.
7. Catching him trying to pour dog food in the dog's dish, and even picking up the loose pieces to put them in place.
8. A tiny hand waving "bye bye," and doing his very best to blow a kiss.
9. Letting him help clean up, as he says "help?" and watching his determination while he works to put things in their place (even if two minutes later he pulls them all out again).
10. Holding his little hands as we pray before meals, and hearing his sweet little echo of our "amen."
It's certainly not all rainbows and puppies every day. But these little moments sure do make the hard days worth it.
